Nawatura is a modern take of the classical 19th century Dutch-Javanese type metal. While maintaining the modulated stroke thickness of Taco Roorda's ubiquitous Javanese type, Nawatura uses less contrast and generally thicker lines to increase legibility in print and in screen. The shapes of the aksaras are rounder with unique quirks inspired from handwriting. Nawatura is equipped with various conjuncts optimized to write modern Javanese, ancient Javanese, and Sanskrit literature.
